Atlas ICBM Missile

The SM-65 Atlas was a missile built by the Convair Division of General Dynamics and originally designed as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile to carry nuclear warheads during the cold war.

Many versions of the missile (Atlas A-F) were conceived, built (Kearny Mesa), and and tested in San Diego. Beginning in 1956, missiles were test-fired at the The Sycamore Canyon Test Facility (STF), located on the U.S. Navy's Camp Elliot.
